The 'Illuminate San Francisco' Festival of Light

Illuminate SF Festival of Light is a 39-day event -- which began on Thanksgiving and ends New Year's Day -- has a new approach to the same-old commercialized, LED, neon-lit holiday decor. The festival is in its fourth year and you can find 27 light sculptures and installations around the city. There are also several free, guided tours each week, which always begin at 6:00 PM - after sunset when the sculptures truly shine. Each tour is themed and some even stop in at the studios of local artists. If your schedule doesn't allow you to join the tours visit the Illuminate SF's website. There you'll find self-guided itineraries. Don't have time for a tour but still want to see what Illuminate SF is all about? Then at least stop by the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, which is surrounded by multiple electrifying monuments to light art.
