While each and every city marches to the beat of its own drum, no one puts on a New Year celebration quite like San Francisco’s Chinatown.
A historic part of the city’s identity, Chinatown was nearly wiped out during the 1906 earthquake but was rebuilt to capture the authenticity of Chinese culture. On the weekend of February 8 and 9, join the city in welcoming the Year of the Rat at their annual giant street fair and parade. With tons of small businesses, theaters, teahouses, and temples, our city’s Chinatown stands as the largest Chinatown outside of Asia. For this yearly tradition, the road fills with locals and visitors for a fun weekend of the momentous celebration. Street vendors, artists, chefs, and performers all come together to educate and inspire the public and the Chinese community. Be sure to get there early to stake out a great spot along the parade route—this lively, colorful celebration is one not to be missed!
