San Francisco Jazz Festival | Music Festival Near San Francisco Hotel

From June 7th to June 19th, the SFJazz Center will be host to the 34th Annual San Francisco Jazz Festival. Founded in 1983, SFJazz Center hosts year-round concert and education programs that serves up to 200,000 fans and students per year, making it the biggest nurturer of jazz on the West Coast.

On the 7th, things will kick off with a free celebration at the Proxy, an outdoor space in Hayes Valley between Octavia and Fell, where live music from Brass Band Mission and Beso Negro will serenade the crowd. While getting down to the music, guests will also enjoy food trucks, a beer garden, and films of past performances on offer. After the 7th, there will be concerts every night in SFJazz Center’s many performance spaces, all of which are located in Hayes Valley, just a 15 minute bus/Muni ride or 20 minute drive from the hotel. Since most shows are held at night, we recommend grabbing a Japanese dinner and cocktails at Ozumo Restaurant, a Financial District favorite, in the Harbor Court before heading out for your night of fun. Once you arrive at the Center, don’t forget to take some time to visit the second floor, which features two commissioned tiled murals of a fictionalized cityscape filled with the storied jazz venues of San Francisco and the United States. "Jazz and the City" depicts historic San Francisco clubs such as Jimbo’s Bop City, while "Jazz and the Nation" combines historical imagery and references to jazz’s African roots, its salad days in New Orleans, and the later contributions of the jazz scenes in cities across America.

Tickets are available online via SFJazz’s website for shows dedicated to a variety of music from the roots party band, California Honeydrops, to the master saxophonist, Ravi Coltrane. Furthermore, tributes to late-great musicians like Allen Toussaint and Miles Davis are scattered throughout the schedule.

Address: 201 Franklin Street, San Francisco, CA 94102
